Sir: Was it kind to publish the inaugural lecture by George Steiner? It only showed that a professor of comparative literature at a leading university in England is virtually incapable of producing a single sentence in normal English. Perhaps Oxford was right to refuse his doctoral thesis, and is wrong to accept his professorship now.
