GEOFFREY WHEATCROFT is particularly offensive to Michael Foot with his reference to the Vietnam war being on the list of his political achievements. On the contrary, rather than the result of distaste for appeasement, this was another example of a big country invading a smaller one. In this respect, it was similar to the Nazi invasion of Czechoslovakia. Perhaps Mr Foot and those who agreed with him, felt these people's lives were not there simply to be sacrificed in order to delay the declaration of war.
Appeasement may be among the noblest words in the language. Sadly this eulogy does not extend to the word "Heydrich".
