Sir: It saddened me that the article 'Charity's cash spent on costs raises concern' (9 December) omitted to mention the numerous nationwide projects established and funded by The Princess Royal Trust for Carers.

Of course, the start-up costs for any charity are high, but for one operating nationally and raising substantial funds, this needs to be put in context. I believe that the support we are offering to carers is impressive in the innovation and unprecedented catalytic success we have had in drawing together and mobilising the statutory, voluntary and independent sectors.

I am proud to say that our philosophy of partnership will result in significant support to carers, specifically through the development of carer centres throughout the UK. There are an estimated 6.8 million carers, many of whom receive no support at all.

Yours faithfully,

ELIZABETH NELSON
