Sir: Greenhouse gas emissions appear set to create worldwide climate disruption, with extreme hot, cold, wet or dry meteorological events occurring ever more often.

But the term "global warming" gives an impression of a cosy drift to a more pleasant world where we will all enjoy tea on the lawn disturbed only by gentle breezes. It is no wonder that people do not "get the message".
