LEAVING aside the distasteful spectre of eugenics raised by the theories of Sir Roy Calne, dare one ask how limiting family size in Europe, where birth rates are already falling below replacement levels (1.8 children per couple in the United Kingdom), is going to prevent a population explosion in the Third World?
Dr Calne would better address his legitimate concerns by concentrating on the problems of health education and infant mortality in Asia and Latin America.
