Sir: I was quite intrigued to read Ian MacMillan's attack (letter, 2 August) on Julie Birchill's attack on John Lyttle and his account of his boyfriend's excessive sexual demands (28 July). It seemed to show that a sense of humour, while not the exclusive preserve of the heterosexual community, is sadly lacking in many prominent members of the homosexual community, which was, I assume, the point Ms Burchill - a welcome new addition to the humorous lesbian community - was making in the first place.
