Sir: I was surprised to read Bryan Robertson in his obituary of Dame Elisabeth Frink (19 April) describing her sculpture in Paternoster Square as a secular work. I have a photograph of it, which she gave me, above my desk (five sheep, incidentally, not three).
It has always seemed to me a deeply spiritual or religious work, symbolising God, our Father, Paternoster,
as the Good Shepherd whom Jesus portrayed.
Is this a sad example of the loss of Biblical understanding that is tragically impoverishing our nation? Let's get back to it before it is too late.
Yours faithfully,
