Letter: Tough questions get truthful answers

Sir: I once heard Lord Denning say that judges ask themselves tough questions, so as to get swift and intelligent answers. BBC interviewers ask others tough questions, to extract honest and full answers. David Steel ('Face to face with television inquisitors', 4 August) is right. Well-prepared interviewees, who give truthful answers, have nothing to fear.

Yours faithfully,
