Sir: In none of your items today reviewing and evaluating the career of the late Richard Nixon is there any mention of his, and his friend Henry Kissinger's undercover activities in Chile.

In 1973, the Chilean government of Salvador Allende, who was written off as a mere Communist, sought to develop Chile's natural resources for the benefit of its own people. Previously, the Chilean workforce had been exploited to produce cheap exports for North America.

The connivance of Messrs Nixon and Kissinger sought to undermine and finally destroy the Allende regime, although this included eliminating a number of United States nationals.

Yours faithfully,

JEAN MITCHELL
