Letter: Turkish dilemma

Sir: Bolent Gokay's view (letter, 20 January) that "a military conflict with Greece might be seized upon as an easy solution" by Turkey doesn't reflect the realities.

Turkey is already fighting the Kurdish terrorist organisation, the PKK, and a war with Greece would aggravate Turkey's far-from-healthy economic condition and further isolate her internationally.

Turkey aspires to be part of the EU but this now seems remote in the extreme, partly due to the Eurocentrist and pro-Greek attitude among most western nations.
