Letter: UN's failure to distribute food relief

Sir: In southern Sudan, Juba is under siege by the Sudan People's Liberation Army. The government is holding the civilian population hostage. Food has run out, as has medicine.

When this happens in Sarajevo and Kabul we know all about it. Why, in a situation where the tragedy is probably worse, is Juba never mentioned? Why is there no UN plan to take food in and get children out?

What makes southern Sudan different? Is it because the media cannot get there?

Yours faithfully,
