Letter: Unkindest cut for an adult

Sir: There is a good and obvious (although rarely stated) reason why otherwise non-observant Jews will have their sons circumcised and why their own parents will want them to (Section Two; "We're made in God's image, so why change perfection?", 21 September).

In every generation some children of the observant abandon Jewish practice and some children of the non-observant resume it. If your son turns out to be one of the latter, his journey back will be very much easier and less painful if he was circumcised as a baby than if he has to go through it as an adult.

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Turek
