Sir: David Day states (letter, 1 December) that 'living together can never be the same as a public commitment'. The same to whom? To narrow-minded people who believe that a couple who have chosen not to marry are not as committed as a couple who have. Who are others to judge the strength of someone else's relationship?
Personally, I believe that if two people want to be together, they will be, with or without a marriage licence.
