THE US visa application form ('Briefly', 11 and 18 July) that my daughter was asked to complete in the late Fifties asked if she was, had been, or intended to become, a prostitute. Her negative reply got her a visa and an explanation; were she to indulge later, it would be easier to deport her for having made a false declaration than for the offence itself. Presumably Gilbert Harding risked deportation for saying terrorism was the sole purpose of his visit, unless he meant it.
