Sir: I lived in east London throughout the V2 blitz. The decision by a new generation of Germans, our partners in the European Community, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hitler's 'Vengeance' weapon is hardly calculated to strengthen Anglo-German relations.

The Germans would do well to remember the thousands of British citizens killed or maimed by this dreadful weapon of terror, a weapon targeted at a civilian population, striking without warning. It also seems to have been forgotten that the creator of the V2, Werner von Braun, was a card- carrying member of the Nazi party.

There is no cause for celebration.

Yours faithfully,

JOHN GORMAN
