Sir: I was very encouraged to read of your fulsome support ('The LSE's ideal home', 6 August) for the proposed purchase by the London School of Economics of the empty ex-County Hall site. I agree that not only would such a move enhance the reputation of a world-renowned institution of learning and of London itself, but it would be perfectly placed at Westminster to provide invaluable research facilities for MPs and peers. As a LSE economics graduate, I am only too well aware that the subject seems to change the answers almost as fast as the questions are posed. Apart from all the other advantages you named, both Parliament and academics would gain immeasurably from continued close contact.
Yours faithfully,
ROY SETTER
