Letter: Where the Church offers the young a moral lead

Sir: David Maclean's comments on the failure of the churches to teach morality to children betrays a profound ignorance, common among politicians, as to the purpose of the Christian faith. The thrust of Jesus' teachings was aimed at the perception of God. Morality was, and is, a by-product. A Christian does his best to be good because God is good.

Yours faithfully,
