Letter: Which tradition?

Sir: In your report of remarks by the Archdeacon of York ('Support grows for Prince in succession row', 8 December), you describe the archdeacon as a 'Church of England traditionalist'.

There is a tradition in Christianity which says, 'Judge not, that ye be not judged', and 'Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people.' This tradition goes back to Jesus himself, and to the Jewish law beyond. May I ask to what tradition the archdeacon adheres?

Yours faithfully,

G. R. DUNSTAN
