Sir: Cardinal Hume has called for a Royal Commission on the family; other church leaders in the wake of the recent murder of James Bulger have added concern and advice.
But if organised religion had been more diligent over the years in teaching morals and ethics, would the incidence of crime and violence and the cult of individual wealth and status be as pervasive as they appear to be, at least on the surface?
