Letter: Why Scots hate the English

I AM in complete agreement with Neal Ascherson's column on the growth of anti-English feeling in Scotland.

I would, however, like to refer him to 'Quotes of the Week' (24 October):

'Scottish (Labour) MPs, steeped in an almost Nordic political culture, find it difficult to see the extent of (English) alienation.'

Peter Shore MP, on Scottish 'over-representation' in the Shadow Cabinet.

Some Scots may indeed hate the English, but there are not a few English who despise everything which is not English.
