I WAS intrigued to discover from the Sunday Review (15 August) that Gabriel Garca Marquez now writes in English. Or are we to assume that his famously 'magical' style has so thoroughly permeated reality that his texts now transmute themselves spontaneously from Spanish? I think we hard-working, underpaid and overlooked translators should be told before fading back into the oblivion to which fate and literary editors seem determined to assign us.
