AS THE chairman of a non- partisan Pensioners' Rights Campaign I was not surprised to learn that the Belgium Prime Minister was not regarded as a blue-eyed boy by John Major. Jean-Luc Dehaene's government pays single state pensioners pounds 289 per week, with an additional pounds 58 for a married couple: more than six times the British state pension and five and a half times as much as Labour intend to offer.
