I READ with interest Stephen Fay's article on Sir James Stirling ('A matter of taste', Review, 31 January), whose untimely death is a great loss to the architectural profession. However, I take issue with his assertion that 'at the outbreak of war he was commissioned in the Black Watch'.
I was also born in 1926 but at the outbreak of war was just 13 years old. I do not think the Black Watch were commissioning boys of 13]
