From Mr Nicholas Paterson Sir: Edward Fox describes Kind Charles I as "a Catholic monarch". In fact, on the scaffold, on 30 January 1649, Charles I declared he "died a Christian according to the profession of the Church of England as I found it left me by my father". This statement of his Anglican faith was among the King's very last words.
