Sir: Mark Loveday, Conservative parliamentary candidate for Wigan, writes (letter, 22 October): "Wigan is full of hope. Tourism, golf courses, retail parks, computer centres and ever expanding executive housing estates - Wigan's got them all".

Industry is not mentioned, and why does he talk of "executive" housing. Are we always going to be fighting a class war in this country?
