Peter Mandelson's title reminds me of another minister of another government. Frank Aitken, who served in Fianna Fail governments in the Irish Free State and the Republic of Ireland in the Thirties, Forties and Fifties, held the position of Minister of External Affairs. My father and grandfather called him "The External Minister for Affairs" or "The Minister for New York" in consideration of his prolonged absences from his native country. Perhaps Mr Mandelson should be the Minister Without a Holiday.
