Michael Leapman criticises over-mowing of lawns and, indeed, their disappearance from many gardens ("Are we losing our love of the lawn?", 30 June). He fails to see that this is simply Blairite modernisation of the garden, where troublesome grass and unsightly weeds are replaced by paving stones and barbecues.
