THE best way to stop misusing apostrophes is to stop using them (Letters, 27 August). They arent necessary, since the context shows whether the word is plural or possessive or what letters are omitted. Other languages manage without them, and so could ours. Bernard Shaw didnt use them in writing, and we dont need them in reading. See what I mean?
