Unlike Professor Robert Winston, who tells us he was "moved to tears" by the plight of Diane Blood ("Babies by appoint- ment", 1 December), others - "spoilsports" - might be moved to tears at the plight of poor Stephen Blood, stripped of every shred of dignity on his death- bed in an enterprise which, to anyone not dazzled by the new world of reproductive technology, seems gross and ill-considered.
