Charles Haughey did not introduce a "pragmatic contraception bill" in the 1960s ("The game's up, Charlie", 13 July). That measure did not come until 1979 and the legislation was so restrictive as to be almost unworkable. Mr Haughey described it - in a phrase frequently used against him - as an "Irish solution to an Irish problem".
