IN COMMENTING on Bruce Grobbelaar (''The keeper and a grey area'', Sport, 13 November), Richard Williams says the distinctiveness of Manichaeism is that its adherents believed that ``the world could be neatly divided into good and evil''. Manichaeism explained the distinction between good and evil as arising from different origins. The good existed in the world of the spirit, while the world of physical matter was inherently corrupt. If Graham Kelly of the Football Association were a Manichee, he would not be interested in football at all since it is pre-eminently a pursuit involving the physical and material. In Manichean terms, football is per se ``evil''.
