Hopefully the waste tax that began on 1 October will be the first of many "green" taxes ("Waste not, want not - at last a tax everyone likes", 29 September). Perhaps we will now see a return of the returnable bottle.

If out-of-town shopping centres had to charge pounds 1 per car as a pollution tax it would remove a main selling point - free parking.
