Parents have raised children throughout history without the level of interference from authorities that now comes our way. As the father of a nine-year-old daughter, I find the notion that the state can define who is and isn't a good parent insulting. If our self-belief as parents is undermined by a state which thinks it knows best, then we are all reduced to a child-like dependency on authority.
