ACCORDING to the book on Sienese painting by Enzo Carli, published by Scala, the attribution in Details Competition 196 may be incorrect. Carli gives the title of the painting from which you took the details as Town by the Sea not A Castle by a Lake.

He also writes that 'research has ascertained that these are not fragments of larger compositions, but the 'pure landscapes' that probably show places in the ancient state of Siena'.
