Martin Redfern writes that JJ Thomson's son George received nothing for showing that electrons behaved as waves ("Happy birthday electron", Review, 15 June). In fact he received a share of the 1937 Nobel Prize in physics with Clinton Davisson for their discovery of diffraction of electrons by crystals.
