Tom Wilkie claims that the idea of a "backyard A-bomb" constructed from stolen plutonium is a myth ("Nightmare scenario: terrorists with a nuclear weapon", 21 April). Plutonium is widely available on the international black market. Since 1970, Sellafield alone has "lost" more than 100kg of plutonium. Mr Wilkie should also remember that since the collapse of the Soviet Union, numerous nuclear scientists and engineers are without work.
