A £70,000 fine for Arron Banks is hardly effective

Claire Bassett of the Electoral Commission announced a £70,000 fine for Arron Banks from the Leave.EU campaign, due to its actions in 2016. It’s probably loose change to Banks. There were a number of odious individuals exercising their right of wealth to influence the British public on that referendum. It is a moot point with the Cabinet Office that under legislation the EC’s ability to impose fines and sanctions are less than adequate.

Let’s look out for our own interests

Theresa May’s government appears to represent a callous membership who are self-serving in the worst possible ways, who talk the talk while acting completely cynically and carelessly. The Windrush debacle portrays May’s cynicism with great clarity. Her slashing of police budgets while gathering state power to oppress have failed to improve policing and cost-effectiveness. May has also stuck to simplistic rhetoric over Brexit that appeals to blind faith but cannot withstand a rigorous examination – just like her Home Office leadership that has seen policing, prisons and home security deteriorate to a point of uncontrolled chaos.

If we do not want to continue on this spiral into mediocrity something has to change. We have to move away from and protect ourselves against powerful minorities who influence policy for their own benefit.

Labour, get off the fence

I completely agree that leaving the single market would inflict huge damage on the UK economy. Labour needs to revise their constructive ambiguity non-policy urgently. They must come off the fence and act in the interests of the country and its future generations. They will not be forgiven if they fail in this task, as they are essentially propping up a right-wing Tory government.

Trump may be around for a lot longer

President Trump has already hinted that the two-term limit should be removed to allow him to continue beyond eight years. It may well be reasonable to expect that once Trump has savoured the splendour and glamour of Her Majesty the Queen’s hospitality during his visit to the UK, he may feel it appropriate to change the US into a monarchy, so he can anoint himself as emperor and fully savour his new clothes?
