THE statement by Stephen Castle that Clause IV commits the Labour Party to large-scale nationalisation ("Blair takes on TGWU boss", 22 January) is simply nonsense.

Clause IV does not mention nationalisation, but stresses the centrality of common ownership - which includes co-operatives and mutuals, such as building societies - as well as democratic control.
