The cause of the controversy surrounding indecent assault is the law itself. As Judge McCallum said in the recent case involving police officers, it is not enough for a woman to object, for a conviction, the prosecutor must prove the man did not honestly believe she was not objecting. Abolish this tortuous requirement and the law is much clearer and, more important, much fairer for women victims.
