Sing it, Bob: letter
It is misleading to say that Bob Dylan has not had a Top 40 single in Britain since 1978, and only one hit album (Oh Mercy in 1989). ("He's glum, he's 55 and he sang at Hyde Park. So who listens now?", 30 June).
The single "Dignity" reached number 33 as recently as May 1995, but Dylan has always been more of an albums artist. The widely praised Oh Mercy was in fact his fourth Eighties top tenner, while four Nineties albums have made at least the Top 40.
When one considers the short careers of many rock/pop performers, perhaps it's time to leave Bob alone. Today's youngsters sadly don't know what they are missing.
