Sir: Three cheers for William Waldegrave, who has been completely vindicated. Government policy on arms to Iraq was simply to be completely flexible; ergo, anything was covered; ergo, nothing was changed.
Hitherto, I have always thought it mildly depressing that the received wisdom is that our culture is such that the British do not like their politicians to be too "clever". I am beginning to think I was wrong.
