UK weather: The latest Met Office forecast

Parts of the UK can expect an overcast and rainy start to the country’s fourth weekend in lockdown with the weather picking up later on, according to forecasters.

Showers are set to drench parts of the UK on Friday, with flooding possible across some central and southern areas, including near High Wycombe and Newbury, according to the Environment Agency.

More rain is expected across southern England and the Midlands on Saturday, but will make way for drier, brighter conditions towards the end of the day.

Wales could also experience its fair share of rain, forecasters have said.

“It will be a cloudy and wet Saturday morning to wake up to” for people in southern areas, Oli Claydon, a Met Office spokesperson told The Independent.

“The rain will move northwards and continue to weaken,” he added, while temperatures are expected to pick up on Sunday.

The weather should stay mostly dry, although “there may be some showers knocking around in the south”, the Met Office spokesperson told The Independent.

As we move into Sunday evening, it will be a “much brighter picture for the whole of the UK”, he said.

There could be highs of 20C in some places – including London, Birmingham and Manchester – on the final day of the weekend, according to Mr Claydon.

“Even places like Glasgow could see 18C or 19C,” he added.

People will be able to enjoy the warmer weather from their gardens or during their daily exercise outside before the UK enters a new week under lockdown.

Whatever the weather, the public have been told to stay indoors unless it is essential – for example, to get food or go to work – to help limit the spread of Covid-19.
