UK Weather: Storms, heavy rain and flooding for the south west
Flood water could cause a ‘danger to life’
Heavy rain sweeping the south west has prompted the Met Office to issue flood warnings.
An amber flood warning has been issued for South Wales, which will be in place from 9am until midnight Friday.
There is a “danger to life” with fast flowing flood water being particularly concerning.
Homes are likely to be affected by the flooding and there is a risk that communities could be cut off due to build up of water on the roads.
Power lines could go down and transport may well be disrupted, there is also a chance of lightning and hail.
A yellow weather warning for rain has also been issued for South Wales, Cornwall and parts of Devon from 7am Friday to 3am Saturday.
Around 30mm of rain is expected for most in the south west, with the potential for 80mm on higher ground.
Winds will be strong with gusts of up to 60mph forecast on the coast in the south west.
These winds come from the south and will bring with them milder temperatures, leaving most of the UK with temperatures in the teens.
The rest of the UK will see a lot of heavy cloud, rain and drizzle, although northern Scotland may see some sunshine.
The rain will gradually move across the country as the day goes on, but East Anglia and south east England should be largely unaffected until Friday night.
Rain will ease off as we head into the weekend. This will leave behind sunny spells and a few showers. It will be wetter in the west.
