Fire breaks out at Coachella music festival

A fire broke out at Coachella during the first night of the music festival in Indio, California.

Festival-goers posted videos of the flames on social media, with reports indicating the blaze started in one of the shower blocks.

One reveller described hearing “explosion” sounds before the fire was discovered, writing on social media: “I was waiting in line trying to shower at Coachella and it exploded and caught fire”.

Another wrote: “Showers at Coachella campground caught on fire, someone [was] in their towel running out”.

The fire is believed to have started after the first musical acts of the festival, including Childish Gambino, finished performing.

According to the Evening Standard, an alert was sent out to all those attending Coachella, cautioning them to “stay away” from the shower block.

The California Fire Riverside has since said they have contained the fire and confirmed there were no reported injuries.

“Fire contained,” they wrote on Twitter. “Mobile Shower Unit in Lot 8 Storage Area. Total two trailers involved. One damaged, one destroyed. No reported injuries to fire personnel or civilians. Fire crew will remain on scene for one hour for overhall. #Coachella.”
