Plans to create a “definitive” documentary commemorating the life and work of late rapper Mac Miller have been halted by his estate.

Filmmaker CJ Wallis had revealed plans to begin work on the film about the Pittsburgh rapper, but less than 24 hours later it emerged that his family requested it be put on hold.

“We heard back from @christianclancy & The Estate who said the family has requested we hold off on the project at this time,” Wallis tweeted on Tuesday (June 4).

“We immediately complied as the last thing we'd want is to negatively impact anyone involved, quite the opposite.”

The director said that he’d wanted to have those closest to Miller tell their favourite stories, and then put everything together to form a “motivational and positive picture”.

“The outpouring of support for the doc and that it was us trying to make one was humbling, and in time perhaps we will get to see it through,” he said.

“For now, we have hours of incredible music and that’s always been more than enough.”

Miller died from an accidental drug overdose in September 2018, aged 26, shortly after releasing his fifth studio album Swimming.
