Megyn Kelly has officially left NBC, receiving all $69m of her contract.

Kelly’s 9am talk show on the network, Megyn Kelly Today, was cancelled after she defended the use of blackface as part of a Halloween costume during one of its segments.

Her split from the network was made official on Friday, when the network released a statement reading: “The parties have resolved their differences, and Megyn Kelly is no longer an employee of NBC.”

CNN reports that talks about ending Megyn Kelly Today had begun before her controversial remarks, due to underperforming ratings and growing tensions between Kelly and NBC executives.

Kelly was halfway through her three-year contract, which is worth a total of $69m. According to sources, NBC will pay the remaining sum of money, said to total around $30m.

Representatives for the host and the network declined to comment on the exact terms of her exit.

There is no indication of whether Kelly had a job lined up, as the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) dropped Kelly as a client soon after the blackface comments, with its rival agency United Talent Agency (UTA) reportedly refusing to sign her.

Asked whether she would appear on television this year, Kelly told TMZ: “You’ll definitely see me back on.”
