England and Everton goalkepeer Jordan Pickford’s costly blunder allowed out-of-favour Divock Origi to carve his own piece of Merseyside history with a Liverpool winner deep into added time at Anfield.
The close-range goal 45 seconds before the end of four minutes of added time came after Virgil van Dijk’s hopelessly-sliced shot was shovelled onto the crossbar by Pickford when it appeared to be going out.
It was a harsh way to end the game for Pickford, who made at least one fantastic save in the first half, but it sparked wild scenes with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp charging into the centre-circle to celebrate with goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who himself had produced a couple of brilliant saves to keep another clean sheet.
Liverpool vs Everton player ratingsShow all 22 1 /22Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Alisson - 7/10 Made a few huge saves, particularly from Andre Gomes who looked certain to open the scoring for Everton in the first half. So much better than last year’s options in net.

Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Trent Alexander-Arnold - 6 Made some promising inroads in an attacking sense and looked solid at the back but his set piece delivery today was not as up to scratch as it has been recently.
REUTERS
Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Joe Gomez - 7 Another good performance from the youngster who looks bound for a positive future. Saved a definite goal in the first half with his clearance off the line.

Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Virgil van Dijk - 6 Won some huge headers as is his usual standard but was beaten by Mina early on and looked slightly more flat-footed and susceptible than perhaps we're used to. Mind, provided the assist - kind of...

Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Andrew Robertson - 6 Like his fellow full back partner, not his most effective day at the office but tried his best to make things happen. Had a little niggle with Richarlison in the second half which was a bit of fun more than anything else.
PA
Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Georginio Wijnaldum - 6 A strong performance in midfield without making a big impact.
EPA
Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Fabinho - 7 Not featured at all for Liverpool this season but those long legs of his helped him dominate in midfield and spread some nice passes around. A decent introduction to the Merseyside derby.

Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Xherdan Shaqiri - 6 Missed some big opportunities and moments in the game but also sent in some nice crosses and enjoyed some good touches.
REUTERS
Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Roberto Firmino - 5 Continues to look ever so slightly off the pace and not in tandem with Salah and Firmino as effectively as he did last season. He’s never been a prolific goalscorer but he’s not really doing the other bits well at the moment, either.
AFP/Getty Images
Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Sadio Mane - 6 Was probably Liverpool’s biggest threat but was also culpable for missing some pretty big chances in the game.
Action Images via Reuters
Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Mohamed Salah - 5 Some more highlights for Salah include his predictability and the air shot in the first half. Still had some nice touches between himself and Mane but just not offering what he did last season.
REUTERS
Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Jordan Pickford - 5 Looked to be a good performance from Pickford until that late mistake handed Liverpool victory. His decision-making let him down when it mattered most. A costly error which marred an otherwise decent performance.

Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Seamus Coleman - 6 Still not quite at the Coleman levels we used to see but he’ll be quite happy with his performance this afternoon.
AFP/Getty Images
Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Michael Keane - 7 Enjoyed a really strong game, winning headers and also dominating against Liverpool's attacking firepower.
Action Images via Reuters
Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Yerry Mina - 7 Top game from Mina. Strong into the tackle, quick too. Could and probably should have given Everton the lead inside four minutes.
AFP/Getty Images
Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Lucas Digne - 8 The full back had a composed performance and was a threat going forward. Has displaced the otherwise non displaceable Leighton Baines and done a good job of it.
PA
Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Theo Walcott - 6 Not his finest performance and another game at Anfield flashes by without Walcott getting a goal here.

Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Andre Gomes - 7 Will definitely look back on this game and think he should’ve scored, missing one of the best chances of the game. However, he was brilliant in Everton’s midfield, strong, and switched the ball with quality.
PA
Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Idrissa Gueye - 6 A good gritty performance from the midfielder but gave the ball away a few too many times for a better rating.
REUTERS
Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Bernard - 7 Some Blues might have been worried he wasn’t going to do his defensive duties but the diminutive midfielder did everything he was asked of and could have potentially scored.
EPA
Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Gylfi Sigurdsson - 7 Really good day for Sigurdsson who played some wonderful passes at the CAM role of the attack. Sadly, his set piece delivery wasn’t quite at its best but reasonable all the same.

Liverpool vs Everton player ratings Richarlison - 6 Hard to lead the line, especially not being a typical striker but he did his best running the line, holding up the ball, and winning fouls. Did well and created chances. Just not enough, though.

Origi had played just 11 minutes as a substitute this season in the 2-0 Champions League defeat against Red Star Belgrade in Serbia and his long-term prospects look bleak.
But whatever happens over the coming months his goal for the 1-0 victory will be remembered for extending Everton’s wait for a win at Anfield into a 20th year as the hosts made it 10 wins and nine draws to keep the pressure on Premier League leaders Manchester City, whose lead was cut to two points again.

1543767351 And we're underway with Everton kicking towards the Kop in the first half!
Anyone think the Toffees can surprise the odds this afternoon?

1543767619 Complete silence in Anfield but I don't know if that's because of this chance.
Yerry Mina, who's last goal was for Colombia against England has just watched Digne swing in a wonderful free-kick and he beat Van Dijk to the header but saw his effort go inches wide.
Everyone seems to be confused by what's happened but what a chance that is to take an early lead!
Everton's 21st attempt in the 21st century to get a win at this ground, by the way.

1543767682 5 mins: Liverpool appealing for a backpass as Jordan Pickford catches the ball and the keeper did seem to be pondering the possibility but nothing given.
Good start by the Blues here.

1543767756 7 mins: Mane slips in Alexander-Arnold who's cross is diverted well for a corner.

1543767989 10 mins: Not as electric as the North London derby gone just before but at least that gives my fingers a bit of a rest.
As I say this Shaqiri bends a wonderful looking ball to the far post but Mane can't get there...
Nathan Jacobs 2 December 2018 16:26
1543768056 12 mins: Gomes gives the ball away in the middle of the pitch and Liverpool look to capitalise.
Salah dinks a super ball over the top for Mane and the Senegalese is having his shirt pulled by Mina but he lets go and Mane lets rip.
Sadly for Liverpool, he smashes it over.
