13 of Joan Cornellà’s darkest comic strips
:D
Spanish cartoonist Joan Cornellà has amassed a huge following for his disturbing drawings and cartoon strips, which, in the midst of a culture that demands everything be in good taste and not ‘triggering’, are gleefully sick.
Dismemberment is probably the most common element, though loneliness, self-mutilation and Cronenbergian body-based surrealism are a close second. And then there’s that face, that face that completes so many of his strips - a perfect smile in the face of utter horror.
Cornellà’s work occasionally carries a message, highlighting police brutality or our obsession with the internet, but mostly they’re just deliciously morbid.
