Romantic fiction market-leader Mills & Boon has recently re-designed its book covers to produce a new look which is a little more modern and - dare we say it - sexy.

For many, though, the face of slushy fiction is still the old drawings of swooning heroines and granite-jawed heroes, which reached their peak with the big-haired, wide-lapelled 1970s designs – many of which feature in fashion guru Paul Smith’s personal artwork collection.

The 100 year-old brand,sells over 200 million books every year, one every three seconds in the UK. In the past 50 years alone, Mills & Boon characters have shared 10,325 weddings, 29,500 kisses and 35,250 embraces.
