This is the version for full symphony orchestra, though something of the delicacy of Fauré's earlier drafts of the "Requiem" remains in the quieter passages of Paavo Järvi's performance.

The instrumental performance is of a very high quality here and in the accompanying pieces. Sadly, the chorus is less refined and while Matthias Goerne's baritone solos are faultlessly poised, countertenor Philippe Jaroussky delivers a fey, frilly "Pie Jesu".
